Gill Moon: Tutorials

One on one sessions with a top class Landscape Professional https://gillmoon.com/

First Session: Bawdsey Quay, 28th May 2021

Gill has a great style:
short intro; good observation; powerful but supportive questions; great knowledge.

I loved the effect of Sun, water, and cloud
Gill suggested the simplification of excluding the distracting beach
Just a couple of minutes previously
this had been dry shingle
Gill pointed out how the shapes in the shingle were changing as the tide slowly came in.
Gill pointed out that my polarising filter would
‘see-through’ the reflections on the water
I decided to save that until next time

My key take-aways were:

  • Simplify! Remove distractions from your compositions
  • Turn around and look around for a composition I may have missed
  • Imagine the composition wet, or with different light, or a different sky
  • Check the histogram and adjust exposure if necessary
  • Check your images as you go
  • Use the luminosity slider in Photoshop for a particular colour or selection
  • Use a polarising filter to ‘see through’ reflections on water
  • Consider taking small, foldable, steps
